2006 Kentucky Derby Result

Barbaro who had won the Florida Derby prior to racing in the Kentucky Derby ran out a very convincing 6 length winner of the 2006 Kentucky Derby and retained his unbeaten record in so doing.

Beutifully ridden by Edgar Prado, Barbaro had initially stumbled when leaving the stalls but Prado got him into full stride immediately afterwards and placed him prominently behind the pace setters.

He took up the running three furlongs from home and fairly stormed away from the field in the most impressive of manners. Second home was Bluegrass Cat with Steppenwolfer third two lengths further back

Sadly for Barbaro, he shattered his leg when running in the second leg of the Triple Crown which forced him out of running and eventually led to his premature death.
